Flow Of Time Mural Project
Mural Project Overview
The ‘Flow Of Time’ community mural is a collaborative project initiated by the Paisley Artscape Society and Trinity Theatre with the support of the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie. Drawing inspiration from the 150th Anniversary of the incorporation of the village of Paisley, Artscape members envision a mural that will celebrate past and future achievements in our vibrant community, while at the same time incorporate a new piece of public art that further fosters our development as the Artistic River Village. The Paisley 150 Mural Project will result in a legacy mural that will honour Paisley’s past and reflect its future.

Mural Project Concept
The “Flow Of Time” conjures up images of the confluence of the Saugeen and Teeswater Rivers witnessing an abundance of life in its many forms over several millennia. Paisley’s 150th Anniversary gives us pause to reflect on that evolution. European settlers, Simon Orchard and Samuel Rowe arrived in 1851 with their families and built a new life and community on the shores of these beautiful rivers. However, life here thrived well before their arrival.

This mural project endeavours to capture the flow of time as it has evolved through the Indigenous and European cultures that have shared this place we call home. Elements of culture, history, enterprise and natural beauty are reflected in a creative and unique format.
Mural Project Format
Installed on the SW corner of the Paisley Community Centre, there will be a total of six 4’ x 8’ alu-panels mounted on wooden strapping over the textured concrete block wall. The panels will be mounted in portrait format creating a mural 8 feet tall by 24 feet wide. The mural will wrap the SW corner of the community centre with 2 panels facing west towards Queen St N and 4 panels facing south towards the LCBO. This configuration is open to discussion with the Paisley Artscape Society. Please contact Artscape via email, paisleyartscapesociety@gmail.com if you wish to propose an alternate format. Please see the concept photo included on page 5 of this package for the proposed format.
Artists are encouraged to research Paisley pre and post European settlement to draw inspiration and context for their work. We encourage a single artist, or a team of 2 or 3 artists comprised of established and emerging artists to apply for this project. Artists may submit more than one proposal.

The panels are to be painted by the artist(s) off-site, and returned to us by Thursday, October 3, 2024 for installation by our team. Successful applicants will receive $1500 for materials upon signing a contract with Artscape and a $5000 honorarium upon delivery and final approval of their work by the Paisley Artscape Society. An unveiling is scheduled for Thursday, October 17 during the “Heritage Talk – The Arts” event hosted by Trinity Theatre and the Paisley Artscape Society at the Paisley Community Centre.
This project is being developed and supported by the Paisley Artscape Society and Trinity Theatre, with funding from Heritage Canada Community Anniversaries Fund and Bruce County Community Grant program.
Call for Artists Submissions
The Flow Of Time Mural Project partners are seeking proposal submissions from established and emerging artists to develop and create an exciting public art project in the village of Paisley, Ontario. The focus of this mural project is to provide the community with public art that honours the 150th anniversary of the incorporation of Paisley.
With the theme of ‘Flow Of Time’, we are asking for art pieces that represent the past, present and future of our artistic river village. Subject matter may include, but are not limited to, the confluence of the Teeswater and Saugeen Rivers, First Nations and Paisley history, heritage, ecology, culture, agriculture, and community.
This is a juried mural project, with a concept proposal being selected by a panel of representatives from Arran-Elderslie Municipal Council, Trinity Theatre, Paisley Artscape Society, and a guest artist.
Jurors will be looking for concepts that are diverse in style and subject matter, as well as capture the essence of the Village of Paisley. We ask that artists please keep location in mind when forming their ideas with respect to proximity to the Paisley Community Centre, a family friendly venue. The artist(s) will be contacted and issued a contract. This contract will detail the terms of the mural project that both the artist and the Paisley Artscape Society and partners will be expected to abide by.
Flow Of Time Mural Project Artist(s) will provide all materials at the expense of the artist(s), excluding the wood strapping on the community centre. Alu-panel substrate for the mural must be a minimum of 5mm in thickness and be primed in preparation for mural creation. This south and west facing location will include significant exposure to sun and weather, requiring UV resistant paint and sealant for all panels.
Panels will be completed and returned to the Paisley Artscape Society by Thursday, October 3, 2024.
